Seminar on Psalms with Guest Speaker Dr. David Barker

We are thrilled to invite you to an insightful seminar on the Book of Psalms, led by Dr. David Barker. As God's people living in a world of both triumph and tragedy, joy and sorrow, we often find ourselves longing for both a word from God and a way to authentically express our hearts to Him. The Psalms provide a powerful means for us to do both, offering words for every season of life.

In this seminar, we will learn how to approach the Psalms and, more importantly, how to use the different types of psalms—praise, lament, thanksgiving, and more—as we bring our deepest emotions before God. Whether we are in a place of joy, sorrow, gratitude, or grief, the Psalms show us how to bring all of life into the presence of our King.

Dr. David G. Barker, our guest speaker, is a leading expert on the Old Testament, particularly the Psalms and wisdom books. He is Professor Emeritus of Biblical Studies at Heritage College & Seminary in Cambridge, where he has also served as Vice President of Academics. Dr. Barker has pastored several churches in Ontario and has published numerous essays on the Psalms and pastoral ministry, including the essay “The Church and Imprecations in the Psalms: The Place of the Call To Curse in the Life of the Church Today” in Ecclesia Semper Reformanda Est – The Church is Always Reforming: A Festschrift on Ecclesiology in Honour of Stanley K. Fowler (Josua Press, 2016).

Dr. Barker is married to Lorraine, and together they enjoy life with their children and grandchildren.

Join us for this unique opportunity to deepen your understanding of the Psalms and grow in your prayer and worship life. Don't miss out! Cost for the event is $10 and includes a light breakfast as well as lunch after the seminar.
